Re: Presbyterians Urge US To End Aid To israel!!!
Hello,

Yet the Bible does not want Christians meddling in politics. Joh
17:16,

"They are not of the world, even as I am not of it." (NIV)

History tells us that the early Christians understood this, and thus
would not get involved in this world's politics etc.

For example, Professor Robert L.Wilken in "The Christians as the
Romans Saw Them" wrote, "Christians not only refused [Roman] military
service but they would not accept public office nor assume any
responsibility for the governing of the cities".

Edward Gibbon in "History of Christianity" wrote concerning
Christians, "refused to take any active part in the civil
administration or the military defence of the empire,..it was
impossible that the Christians, without renouncing a more sacred duty,
could assume the character of soldiers, of magistrates, or of
princes.".

Yes, genuine Christians really are "not of the world". That is one way
to identify them.

Sincerely, James

An illustration of the Iron Dome anti-missile system?

The United States plans to provide Israel with its most
extensive military aid package in history.
The US Assistant Secretary of State, Andrew J. Shapiro
claims that the increased US military assistance should help
Tel Aviv reach tough decisions in peace talks with the
Palestinians.
He said that there is "hope that the administration's
expanded commitment to Israel's security will advance the
process by helping the Israeli people seize this opportunity
and take the tough decisions necessary for a comprehensive
peace," Haaretz reported.
Speaking at the Brookings Institution's Saban Center for
Middle East Policy in Washington, D.C., Shapiro said that
the US plans to bolster Israel's security by providing
funding for the Iron Dome anti-missile systems.
Washington also plans to sell Israel's new fighter jets.
Shapiro said that since Israel is facing some of the
toughest challenges in its history, US President Barack
Obama administration has asked Congress for nearly $2.775
billion in security assistance funding "specifically for
Israel" in 2010.
"It is the largest such request in US history," he added.

Presbyterians urge US to end Israel aid
Sat, 10 Jul 2010 08:31:58 GMT
Presbyterian leaders have supported a proposal that calls
for an end to US aid to Israel unless Tel Aviv stops its
settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian land.
The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, in its
meeting in Minneapolis on Friday, approved a 172-page
report, which details their church's approach to issues in
the Middle East.
The report, approved by an 82 percent vote, affirmed
previous positions of the church, including a call for the
US to withhold aid to Israel if it builds new West Bank
settlements, The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
It was met with immediate criticism from pro-Israel
organizations and Jewish groups.
Earlier in July, Tel Aviv declared that it plans to
construct 2,700 new settlement units in the West Bank.
International community has repeatedly declared that Israel
is violating international law by expanding its settlements
in the occupied Palestinian land, including al-Quds
(Jerusalem).
"Settlement construction should stop, as should measures
which discriminate against Palestinian residents of the city
and the ability of Palestinians to access the city [al-
Quds]," UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said earlier this
month.
Since 1985, the US has reportedly provided nearly $3 billion
in grants annually to Israel.

A government, of Israel, by Israel, and, for: Israel.
for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. The light shineth in darkness;
if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead,
and Christ shall give thee light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
