Why home school? Convince me!

My wife is interested in home schooling, I am not.
Can anyone out there tell me why you did it and what have been the
benefits and the drawbacks?

I made this post nearly 20 years ago now. It is 2013 and I think a follow up is in order, should anyone still be listening.

In the end, we decided to start homeschooling. We never stopped or looked back!

We have six kids, three of whom are now in college, with nice scholarships, and one has just started graduate school. All were homeschooled through high school. One is a soldier working on his MBA. Another is a mechanical engineer at one of the best engineering schools in the country. The third is a music composition major at an important university out east. Our younger three are also very involved in learning. Our daughter is actively exploring being a vet and spends time shadowing actual vets. The youngest two boys love reading, writing, and science.

So, to all of those who responded all those years ago, thank you!

Wow! That is great news, Ron. I'm glad it worked out.

I was WONDERING how it happened that there was an intelligent discussion on a newsgroup these days. Now I see, it's because the discussion happened 18 1/2 years ago!

I was a pioneer home schooler back when it was considered child abuse. I had a child too far ahead of her age group and school was making her hate learning. A problem. I had another child who was supposedly learning disabled. He's a network engineer today. They both went to school around middle school and turned out fine.
